A Pinch of History
The story of Spaghetti with the Sisters is as rich and comforting as our secret sauce. What began in 1955 as a way for the Sisters of Charity of St. Joan Antida to share a warm, home-cooked meal with the community has become one of Milwaukee's most cherished fall traditions.
After arriving in Milwaukee in the 1930s, the Sisters focused their ministry on serving immigrant families—providing food, education, and faith-based support. When St. Joan Antida High School was opened in 1954, they knew that food could still bring people together—and help sustain the mission. The Sisters decided to share a lunch favorite with the community, spaghetti with meatballs.
Spaghetti with the Sisters has raised more than $1 million in direct support for students. Today, SJA serves over 200 bold, brilliant young women from across Milwaukee—empowering them through hands-on learning, values-based leadership, and joyful service.
