Daijahnay passed several levels of competition for this award, and it is a well-deserved honor!
In the 21st-century world and workplace, leadership skills such as communication, goal-setting and teamwork are essential for everyone - especially young people preparing to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood. The Youth of the Year program is the Boys & Girls Clubs' signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders.
Prior to being selected as Milwaukee's "Youth of the Year," Daijahnay had to complete several levels of competition. The first round consisted of a personal interview about what qualities and characteristics would make her a good representative "Youth of the Year." Further rounds of competition included writing three essays, submitting letters or recommendation, and participating in numerous boot camps. The final selection process involved a formal speech in front of a panel of five judges.
In March, Daijanay will compete in Green Bay in hopes of becoming Wisconsin's "Youth of the Year." Already, Daijanay will be addressing a group of more than 500 attendees on May 7 at the Boys & Girls Club's MVP dinner.
Daijaney feels very strongly that "every child is a leader, and you learn from leaders. Everyone deserves that chance, so be a leader!"
We are so proud of you Daijahnay!
