Recognizing the need to encourage young women to pursue post-secondary studies in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields, SJA launched Milwaukee’s only four-year bridge-to-college engineering program in 2010, partnering with the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).
Through this partnership, MSOE offers support to both SJA students and faculty in the instruction of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) related subjects and in the planning and implementation of our twice-annually Girls in Engineering Fair. This fair is designed for middle school girls to gain exposure to engineering as a possible career path; SJA students lead them through the activities of the day which are fun and also science and engineering focused.
Young women who graduate from SJA with a four or higher on their IB Mathematics Exam automatically gain acceptance into MSOE. As part of the partnership, SJA Students admitted to MSOE receive a tuition discount which reduces their MSOE tuition to the cost of an SJA education. In 2017, this cost will be $8,300.
In 2015, more than 10% of SJA’s graduating class went on to pursue post-secondary degrees in STEM fields at MSOE.
